Bajracharya Club

Panchadaan

Panchadan is Buddhist festival which is observed by Buddhists especially Bajrayana Buddhist in which Buddhist antiques are displaced and gigantic effigies of Dipankar are parade around the town. The main highlight of the festival is the giving away of five elements (wheat grains, rice grains, salt, money and fruit), as per one's will and capacity, people donate other things besides that. Panchadhan is celebrated on Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktpur, Thimi, Banepa, Panauti and other parts of the country.

Renovated MahaviharsBajracharya Club has organized group Panchadhan since 2008 and has been continuing  every year till date except in 2010. Every year on the special day (Bhadra Krishna Triyodashi). On this day  our club members go around Kathmandu City’s 18 Mahavihars under club banner and  receive donation (charity) given by people as cash, coins, and in kind also. The cash and kind is centrally collected and later on used in restoration of mahavihars and other noble causes. The main objective of organizing group is to make young generations aware about and preserve our age old tradition. The points below highlight for what the money collected from group panchadan had been utilized so far.

  1. At first in the year 2065 BS  it had jointly participated in Panchadhan organized by Panchadan Samaroha Samittee to collect fund for construction of Lumbini Vajrayani Mahavihar at Lumbini. This magnificent and special Mahavihar is a symbolic representation of typical Newari Vajrayani Mahavihars of Kathmandu valley. It is now under construction phase and one can visit this structure at Lumbini and witness the symbol of renaissance  of Bajracharyas.
  2. In the year 2066 BS  we had organized Panchadhan event for providing financial support to flood victims and collected amount was donated to flood victims through ABC TV Channel.
  3. Panchadhan of the year 2068 BS was organized for with the aim to restore the old vajrayani mahavihar of the kathmandu. For this the 'Agam Chen' (main building of mahavihar) Bajrashil Mahavihar (Eku Bahal) was chosen. NPR Fifty Thousand was donated from the Club as seed money. The encouraging part was when club organized the money handover program many people participating there committed to donate money for the cause.  With this small gesture from our part had helped in the reconstruction of  the building materialized in real sense.
  4. The event of Eku Bahal led us continue our endeavor to other mahavihars as well. By this time club has played catalytic role in reconstruction on Hembarna Mahavihar (Gam Bahal), Ratnaketu Mahavihar (Jhwa Bahal), Maitripur Mahavihar (Kwa Bahal). The money was donated to Manisangha Mahavihar (Mikha Bahal), Mulshree Mahavihar (Mu Bahal) and Vailochan Tirtha also on the consecutive years. The reconstruction will begin very soon there.
